A Bunch of Jerks Destroyed Former NFL Lineman Jeremy Newberry's Cherry Farm
By Seth Carlson

Cherries must be a hot commodity in California.
The Golden State might be known for its various trendy health crazes and commitment to sustainability, but vandalizing a former NFL player's cherry farm seems like going a bit too far. And that's what an unidentified number of individuals are accused of doing to former NFL center Jeremy Newberry. Over the weekend, Newberry announced a $5,000 reward for any info that could lead to the arrest of the vandals he said tormented thousands of cherry trees on his farm.

Newberry was a second-round draft pick of the 49ers in 1998. The two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro played most of his career out in the Bay Area, where he currently lives, but also had stints with the cross-bay Oakland Raiders and the then San Diego Chargers. He retired in 2009 after a brief time on the Falcons' practice squad.
The former lineman reportedly had over 4,000 trees on his cherry farm, of which half were destroyed by the alleged vandals on the loose. Newberry claims the trees that were pulled out were worth about $30,000.
Someone actually took the time (and possesses sufficient malice) to destroy 2,000 cherry trees at the farm of former NFL C Jeremy Newberry https://t.co/4A0aaFhHwa

I think the real question here is who in the world would have time to commit such an egregious act? It's utterly senseless.
