A-Rod Has Excellent Reaction to Question About His Mets Managerial 'Candidacy'
By Scott Rogust
There are seven managerial openings in Major League Baseball as of Tuesday night. One of the more intriguing jobs to follow is the New York Mets. While reports have indicated that Joe Girardi, Carlos Beltran, and Eduardo Perez emerged recently as finalists, there's been talk of a "bombshell" candidate that could very well land the job and blow the whole process up.
One of the names linked to the gig (whether legitimately or not) is former slugger and current MLB analyst Alex Rodriguez. It wouldn't be a New York news cycle without A-Rod, after all!
Just to be kind, MLB insider Jon Heyman texted Rodriguez to ask if he was the surprise finalist. A-Rod replied in kind.
If we'd venture to guess, Rodriguez is not the surprise candidate.
Rodriguez is a busy man. He runs A-Rod Corporation, is a color commentator for ESPN, MLB analyst for FOX, and a guest shark on the ABC series "Shark Tank." Where on Earth would he find the time to become the Mets skipper?
Of course, speculation runs rampant when there's a job opening in sports. Considering Rodriguez's relationships with multiple players in the game, and since he grew up as a Mets fan (he apparently regrets not signing with the team in 2001), many put two and two together and assumed that he'd be the guy for the job.
While Alex Rodriguez can officially be ruled out, we personally can't wait to find out who this "bombshell" candidate truly is for the New York Mets. If they were to gain the job over the likes of Girardi and Beltran, that would be the most Mets thing to ever happen.
