A's Minor Leaguer Admits He's Working for DoorDash Amid Possible Minor League Pay Delays
By Brady Williams

With Major League Baseball postponing their season and nearly all public sporting events closing due to the COVID-19 crisis, many organizations have left their employees without jobs. Without baseball, minor-league baseball players can't get paid, but Oakland A's minor leaguer Peter Bayer found a temporary solution.
In a tweet Thursday night, the Stockton Ports pitcher admitted that he has taken up food delivery, claiming to have made $62 in the span of three hours on the DoorDash app.
Who knows what’s going to happen with the MILB/pay so I decided to start driving with Door Dash tonight. $62 in 3 hours... not too bad. ?♂️

He added that he wasn't trying to disparage Minor League Baseball for not having any kind of payment plan in place, nor about his teammates' remarkably low salaries, but this is an issue that must be addressed, second side gig or not.
Also, this isn’t meant to be a shot at what we get paid. (Hopefully something changes but I’m not going to throw a fit about it). I’m just generally worried about what is going to happen and want to make sure I’m doing something in case.

Even beyond athletes, hourly employees who help support sporting events will be left out of a job, and with how quickly things have gotten out of hand, most had no time to prepare for their sudden unemployment.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was the first to announce that his organization would put together a plan to help support their workers, but many other teams and smaller groups like the Stockton Ports have yet to suggest how they can help their employees. Peter Bayer's new path with DoorDash may be an avenue for other professional athletes.
