Aaron Boone Confirms Yankees Will Likely Call Up Clint Frazier in September
By Adam Weinrib
Among all the injury-marred Yankees mulling their returns to pinstripes, there's still one perfectly healthy Bomber who needs to be accounted for.
Clint Frazier, the young slugger who turned a corner on offense, but ran into defensive deficiencies, found himself pulled from the starting lineup and harshly sent to Scranton on June 16, despite a .283 average, 11 homers, and a .375 mark with runners in scoring position.
But fear not, Yankee fans. Aaron Boone says Frazier's long leash in Triple-A is quite likely to end when rosters expand on Sept. 1, just a few days away.
Though Boone was technically non-committal, we hope in earnest that Frazier's earned another chance to contribute and take pressure off the ailing outfield, especially with 15 ADDITIONAL ROSTER SPOTS available in 2019, for the final time.
Frazier's .245 Triple-A average belies his true talent, as he's likely fed up (rightfully so!) with the banality. He's down there to work on his defense, anyway, and it certainly seems as if his instincts have improved, based on recent highlights.
To hear Frazier singled out (with no other supplementary names) when the idea of September promotions came about speaks volumes. That certainly bodes well for a big, and well-deserved, end to the season in the Bronx.
