Aaron Boone Provides Injury Updates on Giancarlo Stanton and James Paxton
By Brendan Balsamo
The New York Yankees' 2019 injury woes have bled into the 2020 season, as outfielder and DH Giancarlo Stanton and projected No. 2 starter James Paxton are both sitting out with injuries as of now.
Prior to Sunday's Spring Training game, manager Aaron Boone provided some clarity as to where the players stood in terms of their respective recoveries.
Boone said that Stanton looked well and in was good spirits on Sunday and that he was walking normally. Stanton without a limp was a new development in his recovery process. The Yankees hope he can start light workouts soon and they remain hopeful that he can be ready for Opening Day.
Later, Boone added some clarification around the mystery of Paxton's injury, stating that the lefty could begin throwing by later this week or early next week. Apparently, Paxton feels healthy but needs to stay strict to the Yankees medical team's recovery guidelines.
He likened the situation to when a prescription is halfway done and the symptoms subside, but the prescription needs to be finished so the illness doesn't return. Paxton's return is still projected to be around May or June.
Boone's update brought about some well-needed clarification on where some important pieces stood prior to Opening Day. For the Yankees' sake, we hope it's the last important injury update Boone has to give.
