Aaron Boone Provides Injury Update on Luis Severino
By Sean Facey
Yankees ace Luis Severino has hit a snag in his recovery process. Again.
Severino has yet to pitch this season, as injuries have kept him on the shelf for the first three months of the campaign. He was shut down due to soreness this week, and had another MRI on his injured lat. Aaron Boone claims it could be five to seven days before Severino is throwing again.
Severino hasn't thrown off of a mound yet, and though Boone described his lat as 90% healed following an MRI, he won't throw again until he's fully healthy.
He went down with rotator cuff inflammation at the start of the year and was transferred to the 60-day injured list at the beginning of June.
Boone described the latest setback as "unfortunate," but was sure to add that he's still expected to return to action this year.
A vital member of the pitching staff, Severino has received Cy Young votes and was selected to the All-Star Game in each of the last two seasons.
Injuries have plagued the Yankees all season, but none have hurt the team more than Severino's. Though the pitching staff has gotten by without him, at least enough to win ball games, life would surely be easier with him leading the rotation.
He has a 3.18 ERA over the past two years, a mark that's sorely missed in a rotation where only one healthy member owns an ERA below 4.00 at the moment.
