Aaron Boone Provides Update on Yankees Plan for Luis Severino When He's Activated From IL
By Parker White

Yesterday, before Luis Severino's Double-A rehab start, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that all goes well, Sevy could be activated and return to the club next week.
Severino threw 50 pitches last night and went three innings where he allowed one run and struck out five. Boone was "very encouraged" by his outing, but they haven't made a final decision on what they'll do next.
#Yankees expect to decide later today if Luis Severino will make a 3rd rehab start or be activated from IL. Going by Boone’s comments, it sounds like Sevy will get one more start in minors.

However, one thing Boone did say is that when Severino returns to the big leagues, he'll return to his traditional role as a starter and not as an opener.
The move makes sense considering the lack of stability in the Yankees rotation, especially with CC Sabathia on the IL. While this may cause Severino to need a bit more time before he's ready, it will provide an answer to the most glaring issue on the Yankees roster.
Boone says Severino has, to him, "demonstrated enough to be an option" back here with the Yankees, but they want to determine the best environment for him. When Severino is activated, he'll make traditional starts (no opener).

They won't officially make their decision until later today, but it sounded like Boone and Co. may be leaning towards giving Severino one more start in the minors before activating him.
