Aaron Boone Says Gary Sanchez Will Likely Return to Yankees Next Weekend
By Adam Weinrib
As the Yankees' list of walking wounded mounts once more, they appear to be getting at least one 2019 All-Star back in the fold as soon as next weekend.
During their upcoming road series with the Blue Jays, the Yanks plan to welcome back Gary Sanchez, hoping against hope that his time on the IL with a leg issue also cured whatever ailed his swing just before his trip to the shelf.
Rumors of a thumb injury suffered in the London Series dogged Sanchez ever since that extended trip, and we wouldn't say the concerns were unfounded. Though he began to chase more and fall into long, loping, bad habits, facts are facts; Sanchez hit just .176 in the 30 games that proceeded his IL stint, and a blight-worthy .102 in the 15 most recent.
It looks like, if all goes well Sunday (and why wouldn't it?!), Sanchez will take rehab games in Scranton throughout the team's road series with the O's, and will report north of the border if all goes well.
That's a big "if" in 2019 for the Yankees, but nevertheless, we'd like to have the real Gary Sanchez back, after a rough July.
