Aaron Judge Quote on How Hot Gleyber Torres Has Been Will Fire Up Yankees Fans

When you think about the New York Yankees, the first name that comes to mind is outfielder Aaron Judge, who a couple years ago took baseball by storm and became one of the premier players in the game.

But, if you ask Judge, he's not even the biggest star on his own team.

“My goodness,” Judge said via The Athletic. “When I was 22 I was playing in Single-A Charleston. He’s up here facing the best of the best. Seeing what he’s been doing has been impressive. He’s the star of this team. The future of this team.”

Judge is referring to shortstop Gleyber Torres, who is one of the youngest players in the big leagues, and yet, he plays in New York for the Yankees and is currently slashing .287/.342/.504 with 18 home runs and 45 RBI through 70 games.

That's not just production from a starting level player, those are MVP-worthy numbers.

“I prepare really well during my offseason,” Torres said via NJ.com. “I do a lot of exercise. I try to get a little bit more power, more stamina. I think it's the difference for sure. I'm a little bit older right now. I still learn, but I'm a little bit mature. For sure, I know the pitchers a little bit, too. I faced them last year. I know a little bit about that.”

I know his home run total can be a little misleading to some, as 10 of his 18 homers are against the last place Baltimore Orioles, but he's gone deep in three consecutive games against premier opponents.

Torres may not consider himself a slugger, which may be true. However, if he keeps this up, he'll quickly become one of the more well-rounded players in all of baseball.

Judge may be on to something.
