Aaron Rodgers' Dominant Performance Against Raiders Firmly Puts Him in MVP Race
By Michael Luciano
In his first season under Matt LaFleur and by looking at the stats, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been fine through his first six games. That's it. Fine.
Against the Oakland Raiders, however, Rodgers turned back the clock to his MVP days, going 25-of-31 for 429 yards and accounting for six total touchdowns (five through the air) while earning a perfect 158.3 passer rating.
You can't rule Rodgers out as a potential MVP candidate after a performance like that.
Rodgers now has 13 touchdown passes against just two picks (both of which were not his fault) despite losing his best receiver in Davante Adams for several weeks. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Geronimo Allison aren't exactly Jerry Rice and John Taylor on the outside.
Despite playing with a new head coach and a busted up receiving corps, Rodgers has continued to excel, and has the Packers off to a 6-1 start as they sit in the pole position in the NFC North.
The Raiders playing matador defense for most of the game certainly made it much easier for Rodgers, but that shouldn't overshadow the fact that Rodgers was in an otherworldly zone today, and he'll be right up there with Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson in the MVP race.
