Aaron Rodgers' Final Season in Green Bay Could Be 2020 Based on Packers' Impending Free Agents
By Alexander Wolz
Despite all that Aaron Rodgers has done for the Green Bay Packers, his time with the franchise may be moving toward its end. A potentially questionable relationship with head coach Matt LaFleur is an issue, the first-round selection of Utah State quarterback Jordan Love and a lack of talent assembled at the skill positions all make the outlook for AR12 less than ideal.
A look at the Packers' 2021 free agents continues to build on the narrative. Notable offensive figures are on this list, including acquisition Devin Funchess and contributors Allen Lazard and Jake Kumerow, and Green Bay's restrictive financial situation only compounds matters.
Outside of wide receivers, top running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are also due to enter the open market in 2021. The offensive line is bound to take some hits, with center Corey Linsley and guards Lane Taylor and Alex Light hitting free agency as well. Ultimately, the Packer offense is almost certain to look a lot different one year from now, with Rodgers being the most important question mark by far.
The Packers may also find themselves in an increasingly difficult financial situation, as an already tight salary cap risks further restrictions if the NFL takes a huge financial loss due to COVID-19. Many of the Packers biggest names, including Rodgers and top target Davante Adams, hold massive contracts, meaning that some difficult decisions may have to be made.
Regardless of any external circumstances, Rodgers appears to be facing the reality that his future with the Packers may be out of his hands. Multiple signs are beginning to point to an eventual separation, and it may be sooner than later. Knowing Aaron Rodgers, though, he has every chance to deliver something special in 2020 to force the front office to re-think matters entirely.
