Aaron Rodgers' Week 6 Offensive Player of the Week is 1st of Many Awards He'll Win This Season
By Chris Pyo
Aaron Rodgers had a pretty tough start to the 2019-20 NFL season. Not only did he fail to throw for more than 300 yards in five of his six first games, but rumors swirled around his discontent for new head coach Matt LaFleur.
Well, after last week's performance against the Oakland Raiders, it's safe to say that not only will everything be okay for Rodgers, but that his Week 6 Offensive Player of the Week is the first award of many he'll yet to be earned this season.
Rodgers threw for 429 yards and five touchdowns (and ran for one), completing 25-of-31 passes to finish with the first perfect 158.3 passer rating in Packers history. And he did all of this while spreading the ball to eight different targets, not including star wide receiver Davante Adams, who was out with turf toe.
With Rodgers' struggles in the earlier half of the season coupled with Adams' injury, many expected the Packers to stick to their ground game against the Raiders, with Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams leading the way.
After all, the Packers' receiving corps had been decimated by injuries, with 2018 fifth-round pick Marquez Valdes-Scantling serving as Rodgers' No. 1 receiver.
These types of games are what proves that Rodgers is one of the most dangerous gunslingers in the league. If he can put in this type of performance with Valdes-Scantling as his top receiver, think about how much Davante Adams will elevate Rodgers' game, now that he's found his rhythm on the field.
With the Packers sitting pretty at 6-1, and Rodgers only now entering his groove, this team is coming together as one of the most dominant in the league. Don't be surprised to see Rodgers earn a few more of these Player of the Week awards, and possibly some more coveted honors as well.
