NFL Reporters Adam Schefter and Mike Klis Getting Into Twitter Argument is the Offseason Content We Deserve
By Jerry Trotta
On Friday, Melvin Gordon became the fourth-highest-paid running back in the NFL on an annual basis when he agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract, that includes $13.5 million guaranteed, with the Denver Broncos.
Though he's joining a crowded backfield, Gordon should be able to carve out a role in Denver, so this was another nice signing for the Broncos. Now, however, it's worth pondering whether or not the 26-year-old actually turned down offers from other teams to sign with the team.
Per Broncos reporter Mike Klis, the Buffalo Bills made a more lucrative offer to Gordon, but the Pro Bowler simply preferred to head to Mile High.
Klis really didn't know what he was getting himself into here, however.
Once ESPN insider Adam Schefter caught wind of Klis' claims, he fired back by stating that the Bills never had an offer on the table for Gordon.
Oh no, Klis.
The last thing any established journalist should want is to have a jedi-level newsbreaker of Schefter's acclaim refuting a report they made. For reasons beyond our understanding, Klis wasn't aware of that memo and kept engaging.
As expected, that blunt response didn't sit well with Schefter, who, once again, made a fool out of the 9News reporter with the simplest of clarifications.
Schefter clearly touched a nerve at this point, and Klis went on to say that he spoke with a number of individuals who were "directly involved" in Gordon's move to the Mile High City who apparently mentioned deals on the table from Buffalo.
The ESPN insider didn't dignify Klis' insistence with another response, which marked the end of the captivating back-and-forth. With no live sports presently available to provide entertainment, this is the NFL offseason content we deserve!
Quick, somebody go question the integrity of NBA whisperer Adrian Wojnarowski.
