Adam Schefter Says Jason Witten Could Be Considered for Cowboys Head Coaching Job
By Michael Luciano
The Dallas Cowboys have all but officially parted ways with head coach Jason Garrett, and college coaches like Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley are reportedly high on Jerry Jones' list of preferred candidates. However, the next Cowboys head coach could be on their roster at this very moment.
Tight end Jason Witten, back in the league after his disastrous one-year stint in the booth for Monday Night Football, is going to get consideration for the Dallas head coaching job, per Adam Schefter on ESPN's NFL Live.
Witten, who has made 11 Pro Bowls in his Hall of Fame career, has 59 catches for 505 yards and four touchdowns in his age-37 season. He's likely to retire after this one final season and has expressed an interest in coaching after his playing career, claiming it's "something I'd like to do."
Could he get his start with the most desired coaching job in professional football?
Witten has no head coaching experience, or even coaching experience at any level, but he'd be someone who would instantly command the respect of everyone in that locker room. With the assemblage of talent Dallas has, that could be enough to get the Cowboys back into the playoffs.
