AJ Hinch Crying Over Aaron Hicks' 3-Run Homer is a Total Joke
By Parker White
The big swing in Game 5 of the ALCS came from New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks, belting a three-run homer off the right-field foul pole to give New York a 4-1 lead in the first inning.
From there, pitchers for both teams settled in and shut down the opposition for the remainder of the game. Instead of giving the Yankee pitching staff the majority, if not all, of the credit, Astros manager A.J. Hinch decided to make excuses for the Hicks home run.
In his postgame presser, Hinch made it a point to mention that the ball hit “off the foul pole 315 feet away.”
We all know Yankee Stadium is home to a notoriously short right field porch, but that doesn't mean Hicks didn't absolutely crush the slider Verlander hung across the plate.
And according to Statcast, the ball would've traveled an estimated 347 feet if it didn't hit the pole.
While Hinch did address the pitch as a mistake slider, he clearly didn't give Hicks enough credit for his three-run jack. The numbers don't lie, that wasn't just a fly ball that got carried by the wind. Hicks got ALL of that pitch.
