AJ Hinch Provides Surprisingly Positive Update on George Springer's Injury
By Sean Facey
It turns out that all the gloom and doom around George Spinger's injury may have been a tad premature.
Houston Astros manager AJ Hinch gave a surprisingly positive update on the outfielder's recent hamstring strain which he suffered on Friday night against the Red Sox.
Hinch said that the injury is "not as dramatic as we had feared." The team still expects him to miss some time, but are optimistic about his recovery.
It's relieving news for the Astros. Springer has been critical to their success through the first two months of the season. The 2017 World Series MVP is slashing .308/.389/.643 with 17 home runs and 43 RBI.
He looks every bit as good as he did in 2017, if not better, when he swatted 34 home runs for the Astros and earned his first All-Star berth.
The Astros, who are well on their way to yet another AL West division title, would be wise to play it safe with Springer.
He's in the midst of an MVP-caliber season, and rushing him back could prove detrimental to his production this year and in years to come.
