Alabama Grad Transfer Could Be Headed to Georgia According to Insider
By Max Bevington
On Tuesday, news broke that University of Alabama wide receiver Chadarius Townsend entered into the NCAA's transfer portal. Emerging from high school as a 4-star recruit, he committed to stay in-state by joining the Crimson Tide's 2017 recruiting class.
He went on to redshirt before playing three seasons in Tuscaloosa in a rotation role, appearing in just 17 total games. He's off for another adventure for his final two years of eligibility, and insider Clint Lamb says we can't rule out the SEC rival Georgia Bulldogs as a destination.
Townsend mainly saw playing time on special teams or as a reserve running back despite being listed as a wideout. He logged five games in his final season with the Tide.
Not to take away from Townsend's athletic talent, but it is not suprising that he got little playing time with Alabama's explosive offense loaded with great wide receivers and running backs like Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, and Josh Jacobs.
Now, Townsend could be headed to Athens, where the Dawgs are searching for a new offensive identity.
Although Townsend never got a chance to show off his ability with the Crimson Tide, he has great athleticism and the versatility to play multiple positions, as shown in his high school tape.
With the Bulldogs also hitting up the transfer portal to secure former USC quarterback JT Daniels and former Wake Forest gunslinger Jamie Newman to succeed Jake Fromm, it would make good sense for UGA to do the same to address the turnover at the skill positions. Keep an eye on this story as Townsend moves toward a decision.
