College football recruiting is a competitive business and the Alabama Crimson Tide have remained dominant for so long by consistently getting the best high school players in the nation.

Jayson Jones is a four-star defensive line recruit who has committed to Alabama, but is apparently listening to other offers. Why? Because he hasn't heard back from Alabama.

This appears to be a bizarre situation in which Jones' ranking has dropped and Alabama may be thinking twice about bringing him in as a defensive lineman.

Jones is only verbally committed to the Crimson Tide at this point and it is his right to seek out other opportunities.

The recruiting game is difficult because schools treat it like a business and those being recruited are still high school kids. Jones appears to be getting good advice and is smart to look out for himself when making such a big decision.

The difference between playing at one school and getting lost in the shuffle could determine whether a player makes the NFL or fades out of football entirely.
