Actor Tom Arnold Says Giants Almost Hired Nick Saban Over Ben McAdoo After Tom Coughlin Left

Head coaching vacancies in the NFL always bring rumors of the best head coach in college football, Nick Saban, possibly being a candidate for the position. However, with his continued success with the Alabama Crimson Tide for well over a decade, it's hard to see him leaving.
According to actor Tom Arnold and boxing promoter Bob Arum, however, Alabama was really close to needing a new coach back in 2016 after Saban nearly decided to make the jump and sign with the New York Giants.
Jan. 14, 2016 will forever live in infamy for Giants fans, as the tumultuous tenure of Ben McAdoo began after Tom Coughlin's departure. It nearly didn't though, as apparently, on the night of Jan. 9, Arum reportedly called the Giants and told them Saban was interested in the vacancy. The deal needed to be done by 8:00 a.m. the next morning, but nothing could be finalized.
This is all according to Arnold, whose account was then corroborated by Arum. A Giants spokesman said "no" when asked if the story had anything to it, but with multiple sources confirming otherwise, it's hard to believe that.
The Giants job has been one Saban's reportedly always coveted, so his interest in the position isn't incredibly surprising. His unwillingness to make the move that day has now left the G-Men with three new head coaches since.
