Alabama QB Depth Chart if Taulia Tagovailoa Transfers Features Significant Drop-off
By Mark Powell
Alabama's depth took a major hit at the quarterback position late last week, as Tua Tagovailoa's brother, Taulia, has opted to enter the transfer portal.
The young Tagovailoa is a former 4-star recruit, and while not as hyped as his brother and now-Dolphins QB Tua, he arguably had a chance to compete for the starting job this summer. Yet, with the COVID-19 pandemic, Taulia's chances of usurping both Mac Jones and Bryce Jones weren't high, so he's taking the road less traveled.
With that decision comes significant consequences for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama QB Depth Chart
Assuming we have a college football season, Alabama's depth chart is fairly straight forward. Mac Jones is the favorite to start thanks to his work in Tua's absence last season. 5-star QB commit Bryce Jones will slide in behind Mac.
Tagovailoa would've been competing with both this spring were it not for COVID-19, but he surely would've been the underdog to start under center.
Behind both Jones', Paul Tyson will now be thrust into the emergency QB situation, which Crimson Tide fans hope never to see. Nick Saban and Co. are just a few injuries away from disaster, as is every college football team. Yet, with the talent in the SEC, Tagovailoa's transfer could come back to haunt them, especially if they can't load up on QB talent in their next few recruiting classes.
