Alex Bregman Leaves Klutch After LeBron Announces Documentary on Astros' Cheating Scandal
The fallout from the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal was the talk of the MLB offseason before the entire league shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the players at the forefront of the discussion was Alex Bregman, perhaps the single most brash and outspoken member of the team.
The Astros third baseman is back in the news cycle today because he has decided to move on from his agent, Brodie Scottfield, and his affiliated agency, Klutch Sports. This is interesting news considering Klutch is directly associated with LeBron James, and the NBA star recently announced that his production company will produce a documentary about the Astros' cheating scandal.
Is this a coincidence? It doesn't appear to be, as this would be some odd timing for Bregman to get a new agent. He signed a six-year, $100 million extension in 2019 and got the money he wanted, and the offseason was effectively over with the start of Spring Training.
That is a lot of future money for Klutch to lose out on, and LeBron, Rich Paul, and Maverick Carter might be feeling a bit sheepish about the development. However, the agency still has a roster featuring some major superstars; losing Bregman won't hurt the company's long-term outlook, and if the coming documentary is why the Astros star is out, it speaks volumes about his involvement in the scandal.
