As if the Houston Astros receiving a less-than-convincing punishment for their 2017 sign-stealing scandal wasn't enough, the coronavirus pandemic has prevented them from feeling the wrath of fans at away ballparks all season long. Now, it appears that a door has opened for the club to rip into one of its most prominent victims -- the New York Yankees -- as recent developments suggest that the defending AL East champions participated in their own illegal operation, though its severity is not known at this time.

Alex Bregman jumped on this opportunity to roast the Yankees by posting a GIF reaction on Twitter, but oddly deleted the post shortly after hitting the send button.

This is an admittedly strange move from the Astros third baseman, and rival fans would be justified in calling it cowardly. After all, he exuded nothing but unabashed defiance throughout MLB's investigation into the club. Why hide after subtweeting your most compelling playoff rival of the last few years?

Bregman wasn't the first Astro to take shots at New York in the wake of Friday's news. Pitcher Lance McCullers chimed in without much delay.

For his part, star shortstop Carlos Correa took a dig at Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge with his own petty reaction.

Astros schadenfreude being front and center is ridiculous. It's almost as if Bregman, McCullers, and Correa are forgetting that their organization was involved in a much more reprehensible scandal, basd on all current indications. The MLB's findings against the Yankees may prove legitimately alarming, but we don't have enough information to confirm this.

Someone should tell these guys to hit the pause button before more facts are presented.
