It looks like the NBA may have taken notice of Alex Caruso's photoshopped physique that sent social media into a frenzy, after they issued the Los Angeles Lakers guard a random offseason drug test.

Caruso posted a picture of the league's request on his Instagram story, and also revealed that the viral pictures of him were indeed fake.

Caruso looks well on his way to building a cult following similar to the "White Mamba" Brian Scalabrine, and has a big stage to do so after re-signing with the Lakers. The 25-year-old will be a third-stringer at either guard position, behind Rajon Rondo, Quinn Cook, Danny Green and Avery Bradley.

In 25 games last season Caruso averaged 9.2 points and 3.1 assists Though he played 12 less games than his rookie year, he increased his minutes per game from 15.2 to 21.2.

Despite being one of NBA Twitter's favorite memes, Caruso has real NBA talent. The Lakers wouldn't have re-signed him just to satisfy his growing fan base -- he's a decent shooter with surprising athleticism. Heck, his highlight reel even had LeBron James pumped.

Caruso won't play heavy minutes while the Lakers chase titles in the coming years, but hey, maybe he can reach his photoshopped physique one day.
