Alex Cora Drops Revealing Quote After Yankees Take Both Games Against Red Sox in London
By Ryan Flores
Things are not going well for the Boston Red Sox.
After Sunday's rough 12-8 loss against the New York Yankees, Red Sox manager Alex Cora spoke out about Boston's struggles in the series. He went on to say that the last two days were eye opening from top to bottom, and that the Yankees are a lot better than Boston as of right now.
Cora is right in what he's saying here. While neither team pitched especially well, Boston was outplayed in a series where the ball seemed to just fly off the bat for both sides. The starting pitching was a lot better for the Red Sox on Sunday, as Eduardo Rodriguez allowed just two earned runs through 5.1 innings of work.
The bullpen was the real issue of this series, as the Sox allowed 19 earned runs in just 10 innings of work. That's a brutal 17.10 ERA during a two-game stretch.
The Red Sox are now 44-40, and are a whopping 11 games out of first place in the AL East. Things have clearly not gone as planned, as Boston's hot hitting has not been enough to make up for their lackluster pitching all season.
Boston not only needs to regroup during the All-Star break, but they also need to start looking at the trade market, as it's becoming increasingly clear they cannot survive the MLB season with this embarrassment of a bullpen.
Let this series serve as a wake-up call. Time to start making some calls.
