Alex Cora Proves He's a One-Hit Wonder as Red Sox Can't Rally Around Him in 2019 | TOMMY'S TAKES

Sure, the Boston Red Sox are the reigning World Series champions, but they couldn't look any less like it in 2019.

This is almost the same exact roster as last season with the exception of Craig Kimbrel and Joe Kelly (in terms of actual impactful players), yet they're 14.5 games back of first place in the AL East and have no chance of even coming close to their win total last season.

Throw in getting swept by the Yankees in four games this weekend while New York has been dealing with a ridiculous slew of injuries, and the diagnosis is clear: the Red Sox simply cannot rally around Alex Cora in Year 2.

That team meeting, by the way, didn't even happen??

The guy can't even get ejected properly.

If you're gonna get tossed, do something inspiring at least.

This is the guy who flipped out when Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said New York "does damage" when they face the Red Sox (at the time the Yankees had a winning record against Boston) and then told the Yankees to "suck on it" during the World Series parade.

For as boisterous as he was last year, Cora's come crashing back down to earth. The Sox couldn't take ONE of four games against a bruised and battered Yankees team, and he's even accidentally trolling his own squad when talking to the media.

Can you imagine if Aaron Boone lost eight straight games to the Rays and Red Sox with a completely healthy roster? New York would be calling for his head. That type of stuff is just unacceptable for an MLB contender such as the Red Sox, who were seemingly quick to rally around Cora as a rookie manager. It seems the circumstances have changed.

They can't hit with runners in scoring position. The pitching staff as a whole doesn't have the mental fortitude capable of competing. And worst of all? Mookie Betts and JD Martinez aren't the paranormal hitters from beginning to end like they were last season! Who would've thought?!

Call it a World Series hangover or whatever you want, but remember last time this happened? Yep, in 2013 with John Farrell. He won a World Series in his first campaign with the Red Sox and then was a total bust after that. Cora might join him as another one-hit wonder in Boston.
