Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez Take Another Shot at Mets Bid
By Max Smith
It seems like Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are still very much interested in becoming partial owners of the Mets in the near future. According to reports, they are entirely focused on making this into a reality, but there are a few more chips that need to fall in order for the deal to get done.
In recent weeks, the Wilpons have become more open to selling the team due to the coronavirus pandemic. This has aided the talks, as they have decided to add part of SNY, the Mets broadcasting network, to the deal. According to the New York Post, the Mets themselves operate at a loss and depend on SNY to bring in the money they need.
Even with the extreme wealth they share, the power couple will need help in order to make a serious bid for the Mets. They have been working with JPMorgan Chase in order to find a partner in the deal. As previously rumored, there have reportedly been discussions with Robert and Jonathan Kraft. However, they have no interest in buying a baseball team.
If A-Rod and J-Lo are able to find a suitable partner in the deal, they have big plans for the Mets and Citi Field as a whole. Some believe they would follow a model similar to Wrigleyville in Chicago or Patriot Place in Foxboro, surrounding the ballpark with shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
For now, we'll have to wait and see if A-Rod and J-Lo can work their magic and get things done.
