Alex Wilson's Attempt to Reinvent Himself in Detroit Falls Short With Tigers Release

Alex Wilson could never reach his once-great heights, and because of this, he's been let go by his former team in what could've been a great comeback story.

Wilson signed with several teams in 2019 and landed back with the Tigers this offseason. The main story surrounding him is that he was working to be a sidearm pitcher. Would the new experiment work? We will have to wait to see as the Tigers released the veteran before the start of the 2020 season.

Detroit releasing the 33-year-old in a rebuilding year may point to the fact the team wants to go with mostly younger players during the 60-game season. That is still a bummer for an aging reliever who was looking to reinvent himself before the league shutdown.

Wilson played his best baseball in Detroit and posted a 3.20 ERA during his four seasons with the team. He had a total of 246 appearances and was always reliable. Despite the potential to be a bargain free agent buy which the Tigers could flip for prospect capital in late August, Ron Gardenhire and Co. must not have seen the necessary improvements in Wilson's game to keep him around much longer.
