3 All-Star Free Agents Who Will Be a Perfect Fit for the Brewers After 2020 Season
By Jerry Trotta
The Milwaukee Brewers clearly have a win-now mindset, as the club has made the postseason in each of the last two seasons. While their roster is talented, most MLB analysts wouldn't hesitate to assert that it's a step behind NL powers like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves.
After locking down Christian Yelich to a long-term extension, the Brewers should look to build around the 2018 NL MVP, plain and simple. Dabbling in a rich 2021 free agency pool is the perfect way to do just that, and these three players would fit perfectly in Milwaukee following the upcoming campaign.
3. Marcus Semien
Semien figures to be one of the most coveted players on the open market next offseason after a breakout 2019 campaign. The Oakland Athletics shortstop hit .285/.369/.522 with 33 home runs, 92 RBI, 42 doubles and an excellent .892 OPS. Those numbers saw Semien finish third in AL MVP voting. Milwaukee adding talent in both hitting and defense is something that all Brewers fans should all sign up for, and the 29-year-old might be their best bet.
2. Trevor Bauer
Acquiring proven hurlers that won't be too expensive should be the Brewers' top priority entering next offseason. Cincinnati Reds right-hander Trevor Bauer, who has eight years of experience under his belt, certainly fills that bill. The 2018 All-Star struggled after being traded from Cleveland to Cincy -- he compiled a 6.39 ERA in 10 starts -- but it's a good bet that he'll bounce back, especially if he lands on a club that has playoff aspirations. Bauer's veteran presence would fit in seamlessly alongside clubhouse leaders like Yelich and Lorenzo Cain.
1. Marcus Stroman
Stroman will be one of the most sought-after pitchers in the 2021 class, and for good reason. He's on the right side of 30 and is fresh off posting a 3.22 ERA in over 180 innings of work. The 2019 All-Star doesn't have the high strikeout rate that most clubs desire, but Milwaukee needs to bolster its rotation if it has any hopes of becoming a true World Series threat. Nabbing a hurler of StroShow's caliber would help tremendously.
