The All-Time Villanova Basketball Starting 5
By Nick Porr
Nova Nation has been blessed with truly great basketball talents, and they've got the championship rings to prove it. The Wildcats have won four national titles, with their most recent coming in 2018, their second in three years. The longtime Big East program has been one of the most talented and dominant in the nation under head coach Jay Wright, but they have a deeper history than you might think. With that in mind, picking this all-time starting lineup was awfully tough.
5. Center: Ed Pinckney
Yes, he was a forward, but we're ready to slot Ed Pinckney in at the five in order to make this the best Nova team possible. As a senior, he led the No. 8-seeded Wildcats on their dream run to the NCAA title, earning Final FOur Most Outsanding Player honors. A two-time First Team All-Big East player, he played 12 seasons in the NBA before later returning to Villanova as an assistant coach.
4. Forward: Paul Arizin
We have to mention Kris Jenkins for his championship-winning three-pointer in 2016, but the nod has to go to Paul Arizin. The first and only Villanova player in the Basketball Hall of Fame, Arizin is arguably the greatest Wildcat of all time, earning multiple National Player of the Year and consensus First Team All-American honors in 1950 while leading the NCAA in scoring. A 10-time NBA All-Star, the university retired his No. 11 jersey in 1994.
3. Forward: Josh Hart
Swingman Josh Hart was one of Villanova's most important players of the past decade. In his four years in the program, Hart managed to score enough to land 10th on the program's all time scoring list. A Big East Player of the Year and First Team All-American in 2017, his impact was not just on the offenive end, as he was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year in his final season as well.
2. Guard: Kerry Kittles
Kerry Kittles was a walking bucket in his time at Villanova. He exploded out of the gate, leading the team in scoring for three straight seasons. The 1995 Big East Player of the Year and a two-time All-American, Kittles still holds Villanova's all time scoring record 24 years after his graduation and was a lottery pick by the New Jersey Nets in 1996.
1. Guard: Jalen Brunson
The current Mavs point guard's time at Villanova was an immense success, winning two national titles with the Wildcats in his three years in the program. In 2016, Jalen Brunson was named to Big East All-Freshman team as he helped the Wildcats to their first title of the decade. In 2018, Brunson lead the team in scoring at 18.9 points per game and was named Big East Player of the Year and the consensus National Player of the Year.
ALL-TIME BENCH: Mikal Bridges, Phil Booth, Randy Foye, Scottie Reynolds
