3 Amari Cooper Highlights That Prove Cowboys Need to Extend Him Right Away
The Dallas Cowboys traded for Amari Cooper in 2018 to be the team's No. 1 receiver. He finished the 2019 season with 1,189 receiving yards, eight touchdowns, and a Pro Bowl nod. It would be a shock if the Cowboys choose not to give Cooper a new contract. Several highlights during his time in Dallas make the decision an easy one.
3. Big-Play Ability
Cooper made a fantastic play on Thanksgiving 2018 by first catching a ball with three defenders around him. He then stopped on a dime, only to start up again and out-race the defenders for what went in the box score as a 90-yard touchdown. This type of breakaway speed is not something the Cowboys can find with any receiver. Most guys would have fallen down after making the catch.
2. A Perfect Route and Concentration
Cooper is able to run perfect routes along the sideline. That takes awareness in order to make sure the quarterback has a slot in which to drop the ball. He hauled in an amazing touchdown against the Chicago Bears in 2019 by running the sideline and getting just enough separation to make the catch. This took awareness, concentration, and great hands to make a grab with barely any separation between defender or sideline.
1. Speed, Awareness, Agility
Cooper had a 226-yard day against the Green Bay Packers this past year, highlighted by a touchdown catch in which the Alabama product showed off his abilities. First came the catch, followed by the broken tackle along the sideline, finished off with a spin move near the goal line. This play shows off his No. 1 receiver abilities and is a perfect example of why the Cowboys traded for him.
