Amazing Photo Surfaces of Yankees' First-Round Pick as a Child With Derek Jeter
By Joey Mauceri
The New York Yankees took local kid Anthony Volpe with their first round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. The shortstop is from Morristown, New Jersey and attended Delbarton High School, which is just about an hour drive away from Yankee Stadium.
The local product described the experience of being drafted by a Yankee as "surreal", saying he's dreamed of donning the pinstripes since he was a little kid. Well, Volpe certainly has been a diehard fan of the Bombers since his youth, as this incredible photo has surfaced picturing the Yankees' 30th overall pick with legendary shortstop Derek Jeter.
Could this be a symbol of a passing of the torch from one legendary Yankees shortstop to the next?
Obviously that is a lot of pressure to put on an 18-year-old, but this photo certainly seems like one of those that we will be seeing many, many times throughout Volpe's career, which will hopefully see him in the Bronx before long.
Volpe has all the tools to be a star at the next level as well. The young shortstop has drawn praise for his compact swing, in-game power, and incredible defensive tools. Hopefully he can continue to develop in the Yankees' farm system.
