Andre Iguodala Actually Hates Being Called Iggy
By Zack Jiang

Nicknames and sports go hand-in-hand. Some people give themselves nicknames, such as Kobe Bryant's 'Black Mamba' title, but most of them happen naturally.
For Andre Iguodala, "Iggy" has always been a nickname people have called him. However, in a recent interview with Marc Stein of the New York Times Iguodala revealed that he never liked that nickname.
“I have a good idea how much longer I want to play,” Iguodala said. “I’m keeping it to myself, but it’s going to be soon. I can play four or five more years. But I won’t.” https://t.co/HSYZB9eyKX

Iguodala admitted to Stein that he "always hated" being called Iggy. As time went on, he simply learned to just accept it.
“I was always like, ‘Stop calling me that,’" Iguodala said, "I don’t hate it as much as I used to — I don’t mind if people who know me call me Iggy. You just learn to embrace it.”
Iguodala compared his softening to the nickname to his acceptance to the role of a sixth man. He accepted the role when he joined the Warriors and has become one of the best to ever do it. As a matter of fact, the forward is coming out with a book titled after his role.

Iguodala has been a staple of the Warriors dynasty and will have an impeccable resume when he hangs up his shoes. In the end, he'll be remembered more by his accomplishments than by the nickname he hated.
