Andrew Benintendi Scratched from Sunday's Red Sox Lineup With a Quad Injury
By Jerry Trotta
No need to freak out, Red Sox fans. This is all just precautionary.
After initially penciled in as the No. 2 hitter and Boston's DH for Sunday's tilt against the Orioles, outfielder Andrew Benintendi has been scratched at the hands of a sore quad.
As a result, manager Alex Cora has flexed catcher Christian Vasquez from sixth to second in the order. Eduardo Nunez has been moved from second base to DH and Marco Hernandez enters the lineup to hit ninth and play second.
Fortunately for Benintendi, the Red Sox don't believe the ailment is anything serious and the club is hopeful that a day out of the lineup will be all he needs to recover.
If the 24-year-old stud is able to go through pregame activities on Monday without any significant discomfort, then he should be slotted back into the lineup card for Boston's opener against the Twins -- a clash that the Red Sox would absolutely rather have Benintendi back for at full strength.
