Andrew Luck vs Matthew Stafford Sack Stats Prove Lions QB Has Taken an Absolute Beating
By Sean Facey
There's no denying that Andrew Luck took a beating during his time under center for the Colts. His offensive line was spotty at best, and the hits he took led to a horrific amount of injuries that ultimately forced him out of football.
But when his sack stats are compared to Matthew Stafford's, it's clear that the Detroit Lions quarterback has taken an even more brutal beating.
Luck was sacked 174 times from 2012 to 2018, a truly garish number. However, it pales in comparison to the 265 takedowns that Stafford has endured during that same time frame.
It's a miracle that Stafford isn't permanently interred at a hospital by now. If the injuries were too much for Luck to bear, one can only imagine how brutal things have been for Stafford.
To be fair, Stafford started in 112 games during that span to Luck's 86, but that doesn't take away from just how tough it's been for him.
The Lions' gunslinger has taken at least 40 sacks in four of the last five seasons. He hasn't finished with fewer than 37 since 2013. The man has played through injuries that would sideline most other players too many times to count. He's had practically no protection in front of him, and he's paid the price in blood.
Again, this isn't to take anything away from Luck. The guy has an absolutely brutal injury history no player should have to endure. But if pain is what forced him out of the NFL, it's scary to even think about what Stafford has gone through.
Football is not for the weak of will and certainly not for the weak of body. These players are testaments to the physical toll the game exacts on each player.
