VIDEO: Andrew Thomas Absolutely Mauling Chase Young in High School Should Get Giants Fans Hyped
By Scott Rogust
At the tail end of the 2019 season, the New York Giants won a meaningless game against the Washington Redskins, and thus created a domino effect. New York's NFC East rival secured the second overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, and used it to select Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young on Thursday night. Two picks later, the Giants opted to bolster their offensive line by taking tackle Andrew Thomas out of Georgia. It appears general manager Dave Gettleman did his homework (based off his gigantic binder), as footage has surfaced of Thomas absolutely mauling Young during drills at the 2017 Army All-American Bowl.
Good lord! We can now place Young alongside Josh Allen and K'Lavon Chaisson to the list of Thomas' high-profile victims.
Thomas was always a highly regarded plug-and-play tackle out of Georgia, but he was outshined at the NFL Scouting Combine by Tristan Wirfs and Mekhi Becton. While those two had the highest upside out of every offensive lineman in the class, Thomas was the cleanest and safest of the bunch.
Giants fans would have liked if the team had selected an impact defender like Isaiah Simmons, but the o-line was their most glaring need. Now, they potentially have their starting left tackle for the next 10 years in Thomas, who can keep quarterback Daniel Jones upright, while making holes for running back Saquon Barkley.
Oh, and we get to see Thomas vs. Young twice a year. Those are going to be absolute BATTLES.
