Andy Dalton's Comments on Dak Prescott Are Exactly What Cowboys Fans Need to Hear Right Now
By Mark Powell
Andy Dalton signing with the Dallas Cowboys over potential starting QB opportunities remains one of the surprises of NFL Free Agency, but the former Bengals signal-caller's comments should ease any concerns fans in the lone star state have about his intentions.
The Red Rocket has no plans on supplanting Dak Prescott as the starter, despite some pundits suggesting Jerry Jones trade the younger QB while he's on the franchise tag.
Dalton is ready to back up for Prescott, and potentially step in if necessary.
“Dak has played really well,” Dalton said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I knew the situation I was coming into. . . . Dak is the starter on this team. If for some reason he was to go down, I will be able to step in and help this team.”
Prescott is still in Dallas' long-term plans, despite not having a deal in place at the moment. Dalton is merely talented insurance, which given Prescott's ability to test the opposing defense in the open field, may be necessary.
Dallas' QB situation is suddenly one of the healthiest in the league. For their sake, we hope it stays that way, with Prescott behind center.
Dalton is just fine with that scenario, too.
