It took a few months, but we have finally identified en endorser to back former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb's claim that he belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame...and is better than five-time Super Bowl champ, Troy Aikman (despite playing in decidedly different eras).

Andy Reid coached McNabb for all of his 11 seasons in Philadelphia, and didn't refrain from backing his former gunslinger's widely-criticized notion when asked about the Canton proclamation during a Wednesday presser.

"Listen, I’m his biggest fan. I was there. I know he belongs there,” said the incumbent Chiefs head coach. “You talk about the great players in the National Football League? Five championship games, a Super Bowl? All those things? Good football player. Great football player, and did some things that weren’t being done at that particular time in a lot of areas. I think the world of him.”

Are we honestly surprised at Andy taking Donovan's side here? In truth, it all comes down to optics.

How would he have looked if he came out and scorned McNabb's chances at being enshrined in Canton?

However, this assessment is flat-out erroneous, and can be confirmed by the fact of the former six-time Pro-Bowler never even being named as one of the 15 finalists for potential enshrinement since becoming eligible.

There's no doubting that McNabb had an admirable career in the league, but his chances at being permanently consecrated in football royalty in the coming years are slim at best, regardless of Reid's assertions and his legend status in the City of Brotherly Love.
