Details of Fired Angels Clubhouse Guy's Side Hustle Selling Foreign Substances Are Wild
By Michael Luciano
Brian "Bubba" Harkins was one of the longest-tenured and most well-respected members of the Los Angeles Angels, but he was fired a few days ago after he supplemented his income by selling foreign substances to pitchers who pitched at Angel Stadium.
Harkins' signature item was called "Go-Go Juice," also known as a blend of rosin and pine tar.
Harkins, who started working with the team as a batboy in 1981, was making money on the side selling this concoction to pitchers looking to improve their grip on the baseball. Players have generally not made much of a fuss about substances other than the rosin bag being used to control pitches, as they claim that it helped the pitcher locate the ball over the plate and prevents a wild fastball from hitting them and potentially causing injury.
However, with the league implementing stricter regulations when it comes to dealing with pitchers bringing foreign substances to the mound, the Go-Go Juice ring was immediately shut down.
Whatever your thoughts on foreign substances on the mound, they are currently against the rules, and buying huge quantities of the stuff from a clubhouse manager is something that is so brazenly illegal that it should be of no surprise that the league wanted this dealt with as soon as possible.
