Another Solid Daniel Jones Performance Means Giants Have Nothing to Lose by Starting Him
By Jerry Trotta

Before you ask, yes, we're about to go there.
Daniel Jones put together another solid preseason performance Thursday night against the Patriots. In his first start (technically) for the Giants, the rookie quarterback went 4-for-4 for 47 yards while leading New York into the red zone in the first quarter.
What does this surprising turn of events tell us? That the G-Men have literally nothing to lose, and potentially all to gain, by throwing him out there as their starting QB for Week 1's clash against the Cowboys.

We'll be the first to admit that preseason competition is essentially glorified swiss cheese. However, with Thursday night's outing over, DJ has finished the preseason 29-of-33 (87.8 completion percentage) for 416 yards, two touchdowns, and ZERO interceptions.
Make no mistake about it, those are numbers that deserve genuine recognition, and should have fans clamoring for Eli Manning to step aside. For some reason, the Duke product's sheer excellence over the last month hasn't persuaded head coach Pat Shurmur (and ownership, of course) to amend their original plan to start Eli under center to begin the year.
That's it for Daniel Jones. He finishes 4 for 4 for 47 yards and finishes the summer 29 for 34 for 416 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

The next time we see him will likely mark the end of Eli Manning's Giants career.
That's the thing, Ralph Vacchiano: it doesn't have to be that dramatic. It just has to be a shot in the dark. If the Giants had the stones to annul their undying loyalty to Eli, which he certainly deserves (but to an extent), the former Blue Devil's maturity and inevitable rookie wall could transpire MUCH sooner than expected -- a potential scenario that would only stimulate the franchise's rebuild.
Or is that not the endgame here?
