Anthony Davis' Comments on Surrendering Trade Exception Will Have Lakers Fans Fired up
By Jerry Trotta
Anthony Davis won't technically became a Los Angeles Laker until Saturday, but the six-time All-Star is already pondering about the potential that a pairing of he and LeBron James -- and possibly Kawhi Leonard -- could do for his legacy.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, his first public comments since the trade from New Orleans, he wouldn't exactly elaborate on the move, but made it handsomely clear what his mindset is from this point forward:
It's all about championships for AD from here on out.
"That’s all part of my legacy, and I think that’s way more valuable than any monetary value," Davis said via Arash Markazi. "I think how you establish yourself in the NBA and what you do on and off the court is something that people will remember forever. Obviously, our money is public and people know what we make, but at the end of the day no one cares about how much money you make."
If Laker Nation wasn't already drooling in anticipation of seeing two of the world's top five players take the Staples Center's floor for 41games for the foreseeable future, they surely are now.
As we know, Davis waiving his $4 million trade kicker, along with dealing Mo Wagner to the Wizards, freed up enough cap space that currently has the Lakers in a position to hand out another max contract.
If that's not a championship-or-bust attitude, we don't know what is.
We hope you're ready for The Brow, La La Land. Because he sure as hell is ready for you.
