Anthony Rizzo's Foundation Announces Major Gift to Children's Hospital for Cancer Treatment
By Chris Russo
In a move that shows the true expanse of his philanthrophy, the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation is donating $1 million in endowments to the Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital.
The donation will allow the hospital to help pediatric cancer patients, and their families pay for treatment and other expenses.
The foundation will not be donating everything at once. Rather, the money comes from two endowments.
The Hope 44 Endowed Fund will pay for things like rent, utilities, groceries, and other household expenses, so parents and family members can focus their attention solely on their child's health.
The Child Life Endowed Fund will provide financial support for a full-time oncology child life specialist, who can help anxious patients and normalize the hospital experience.
The foundation will provide the grants to families on a case-by-case basis.
The Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital is located in Hollywood, Florida, only about 30 miles away from Rizzo's hometown of Parkland.
Rizzo won his battle against Hodgkin's lymphoma back in 2008. In 2012, he and his family created the foundation, and have committed themselves to fighting pediatric cancer. They have donated over $4 million to Chicago's Lurie Children's Hospital alone, and this only adds to their contribution.
