Antonio Brown Issues Apology to Steelers for Being a Distraction
By Jerry Trotta
It appears that Antonio Browns' recent arrest served as the stern reality check that so many NFL fans were hoping he'd be hit with before methodically destroying his football career.
The four-time All-Pro wideout was evidently remorseful in a sit-down interview with ESPN's Josina Anderson last weekend. Now, less than a week later, Brown issued an apology to Steelers fans for the unrelenting headache he personified towards the end of his tenure in Pittsburgh.
"I apologize to those guys for the distractions," Brown told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh. "The unwanted attention that I probably caused those guys. To the organization. Obviously you want to clear out any baggage or any disrespect or unintended attention that was brought on to the organization."
"These guys gave me an opportunity when I was 21 years old," Brown continued. "I'm forever grateful to those guys, to have the opportunity to not only play with those guys but to be in so many amazing moments. We've been through so much. I'm forever grateful and indebted to this organization."
Brown went on to discuss the fragility of mental health and concluded the interview by acknowledging that he doesn't know what his future holds as it pertains to an NFL return. He specifically named individuals including GM Kevin Colbert, Art Rooney II, Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger.
For most fans in Pittsburgh, this apology will be viewed as too little, too late. Still, at least it appears that the embattled wideout is finally coming to terms with how reprehensible his actions have been over the last year, and it starting to take responsibility.
