Asdrubal Cabrera Reveals Mets' Behavior in Offseason Resulted in Him Choosing to Join Nationals
By Parker White

The Texas Rangers DFA'd and then released veteran infielder Asdrubal Cabrera this week, leading to him signing with the Washington Nationals.
The Nationals and New York Mets, who called him first, had interest in Cabrera again this time around, but he decided to take his talents to the nation's capital. Why? It had everything to do with happened in the offseason.
Asdrubal Cabrera said Mets and Nats called when he was available. He chose Nats essentially because Mets passed on him in offseason.

Said Mets called him, then signed Lowrie with no call back.
Said it broke his son --Meyer's-- heart that Mets didn't sign him.
Cabrera said that this offseason, the Mets showed some interest initially, but then signed Jed Lowrie and never called him back. That rubbed Cabrera the wrong way, and even broke his son's heart.
So, with a chance to stick it to the Mets, Cabrera signed with a different NL East team.
I wonder if the #Mets were to have been the only team to call Asdrúbal Cabrera after Texas DFA’d him last week, if he would’ve signed with them. Its either that or go home.

Is having a chip on your shoulder better than having a job?
It seems very petty, and you wonder what he would've done if the Mets were the only team to call him after the Rangers had let him go. I'm sure he would've been keen to sign swiftly, preventing this story from ever coming out.
