Alex Bregman Launches Campaign to Help Feed Houston Residents During COVID-19 Pandemic
By Brady Williams
While COVID-19 has halted Major League Baseball for the time being, players have been doing what they can to help halt the virus and provide support for the people who have been most affected. Now, Houston Astros star Alex Bregman has announced that he'll be establishing FEEDHOU, a fundraising campaign to get food to Houston residents who are struggling to feed themselves.
All proceeds from the campaign will go directly to the Houston Food Bank. His own contribution will top out at $100,000. He's joined by Jim McIngvale, aka Mattress Mack, the owner of Gallery Furniture, in donating that amount.
Bregman's efforts hope to provide some relief to the people who can't get by on their own right now. He's been a resident of Houston since 2015, and is now looking to give back to his community. He's said that any donations are not only welcome, but extremely helpful.
So far Texas has 11,671 confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. While researchers continue to look for a solution to end the pandemic, donations like Bregman's help to solve some of the secondary consequences of the virus.
