Evan Gattis Completely Backtracks After Causing Twitter Stir With Customized Mike Fiers Cup
By Jerry Trotta
The Houston Astros' damning sign-stealing scandal has flown under the radar since the coronavirus outbreak forced the sports world to come to a screeching halt.
However, former Astros catcher Evan Gattis appeared to send a brazen message to whistleblower Mike Fiers on Friday, which opened up a previously sealed can of worms. Gattis tweeted an image of a customized glass with Fiers' face on it and the phrase "snitches get stitches" underneath.
To nobody's surprise, Gattis caught a bit of flak for the post, and on Saturday he backtracked by claiming he has "zero hard feelings" towards his former teammate.
There's something to be said for Gattis acknowledging his mistake, but it's really mind-blowing to think that he didn't know his bizarre humor was going to be disparaged on Twitter. To most people, that post likely indicated that the six-year MLB veteran had a vendetta against Fiers.
My goodness, Gattis. You are not doing yourself any favors here.
In essence, the 33-year-old Gattis is saying that Houston knew how slimy it felt when the club thought other teams were cheating against them, but did it anyway.
Again, credit to Gattis for recognizing he was in the wrong here, but he is personifying the exact sort of arrogance that has made the Astros' cheating scandal beyond insufferable.
