VIDEO: Justin Verlander Speaks to Media About Injury After Astros Decide to Shut Him Down
By Scott Rogust

The Houston Astros' spring training has been highlighted by negative fan reactions and plenty of beanballs after being proven guilty of illegally stealing signs throughout the 2017 season. Even though that's bad, they received even worse news after finding out that ace Justin Verlander has been diagnosed with a mild lat strain. He has since been shut down for an indefinite amount of time. After the team's announcement, Verlander spoke to the media about his diagnosis, saying "it would probably take a miracle to be ready for Opening Day. "
Verlander said this is not the worst-case scenario but also said later in his interview session “It would probably take a miracle to be back before Opening Day. But I don’t want to take miracles off the table.” JV has a mild lat strain, similar to injury he had in 2015. pic.twitter.com/8RE2hXeGzm

While Verlander didn't rule out it out, he knows all too well just how troublesome this injury is.
Verlander suffered a lat strain back in 2015 while playing with the Detroit Tigers, causing him to miss the first two months of that season. But that was when Verlander was 32 years old. Now in his age-37 season, recovery time will likely increase.

Considering the Astros are projected to contend for the AL West crown, they'll take it easy with their ace and let him rest until he's 100%.
