Astros' Justin Verlander Tosses 3rd Career No-Hitter With Help From Rookie Abraham Toro
By Parker White
His last time out against the Tampa Bay Rays, Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander was ejected in the middle of the sixth inning for arguing with the home plate umpire.
Well, Verlander was back with a vengeance on Sunday and tossed a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts against the Toronto Blue Jays.
In nine innings of work, Verlander walked just one batter. Let's just say, he had everything working and might have locked up the AL Cy Young Award with this performance.
Of course, Houston almost wasted this outing, as it was a scoreless game heading into the ninth inning. But of course, rookie Abraham Toro came through with a two-run blast in the top half of the inning.
Yes, an unknown player to most was the offensive hero, coming through with two outs.
The young bats of the Blue Jays learned a valuable lesson today: Justin Verlander, despite being 36 years old, can mow down all age groups.
