Timeline of Astros' Lack of Accountability Over Sign-Stealing Will Infuriate You in Quarantine
By Michael Luciano
The MLB season might take a while to get going due to the coronavirus pandemic delaying the start of the 2020 campaign, but that absence shouldn't extinguish the burning anger that most baseball fans have for the Houston Astros.
Not only were they found guilty of using technology to steal signs, but they seemed completely unapologetic and inauthentic when confronted with concrete evidence of their wrongdoing.
So while we're sitting here waiting for baseball to return, we understand that sadness will easily engulf fans and make them forget about a lot that has transpired since the end of 2019. But guess what? We're not going to forget what the Astros did, from top to bottom, in terms of irresponsibly addressing their blatant cheating.
February 7: AJ Hinch's Interview
Hinch gave an interview with MLB Network that many expected to be one long apology in full view of the public, but he went out of his way to avoid answering questions about the alleged use of buzzers, among other sign stealing-related inquiries.
February 13: The Infamous Press Conference With Jim Crane, Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman
Rather than act contrite and apologize, all the Astros did in this press conference was read a bunch of canned PR statements while blaming their old manager Hinch and old GM Jeff Luhnow for basically everything. Embarrassing.
February 13: Carlos Correa Starts Talking
Correa seemed apologetic originally, but he quickly turned aggressive whenever players like Cody Bellinger and Yu Darvish criticized the Astros, even telling Bellinger to "shut the f*** up". And Astros fans wonder why no one likes them anymore.
February 15: The Jose Altuve Tattoo Story Changes Again
Rather than stick to one reason as to why he didn't want to have his shirt taken off after his ALCS-winning home run in 2019 -- that particular reason being that he was "shy" -- Correa claimed that star infielder Jose Altuve didn't want to show off his new, unfinished tattoo. If you believe that, I've got a nice new bridge to sell you.
February 19: Josh Reddick Takes Aim at the Haters
Reddick has taken a very cavalier attitude when it comes to dealing with the haters, as apology is the furthest thing from his mind right now. This quote stands out as the most unlikeable uttered by an Astro in the last few months, which is really saying something.
March 2020: The Astros Start Getting Beaned
In a Spring Training cut short by the coronavirus, no team was hit my more pitches than the Astros. Karma remains undefeated in baseball.
March 23: Reddick Shows off His Ring
Reddick has now started to clap back at haters by flashing his World Series ring, which he came into thanks to more talented players carrying the load on offense,on Twitter. Just when you thought they couldn't get more unlikeable.
Whenever the season resumes, make sure that the boo birds come out in full force at Astros games.
