The Houston Astros are playing in the World Series for the second time in three years, but 2019's appearance in the Fall Classic has been no thanks to All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman, who has been woeful since the calendar turned to October.

Bregman has mustered just one hit in 13 at-bats thus far against the Nationals, which equates to a .076 batting average, while hitting right in the middle of AJ Hinch's lineup. Those figures become even worse when you factor in the fact that he's just 4-for-31 (.129 BA) since the start of the ALCS.

What we're trying to say is that Bregman, the likely AL MVP, needs to prove his worth in Saturday night's pivotal Game 4.

That homer served as Bregman's biggest contribution this postseason, and it came in the first inning of a game that Houston ultimately lost, even though that swing did bring his club back from a 2-0 deficit.

It's hard to believe that we're talking about the same player that slashed .296./423/.592 to go with 41 home runs, 112 RBI, and 122 runs scored during the regular season.

To sum up his struggles, Bregman, after grounding into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, is now 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position in October. At the time, Houston led 4-1 and A-Breg came up short with a chance to blow the game wide open.

Did we mention that the Nationals intentionally walked Michael Brantley to load the bases to get to Bregman?

That simply says it all, folks.

The Astros are an entirely different monster when Bregman is clicking and they need him now more than ever to even things up at 2-2.
