While it's hard for us to discern whether or not the collision was intentional, several of his teammates claimed it was an unfortunate accident, citing Marisnick's character and personality.
Among the commenters were All-Star Game starting pitcher Justin Verlander and second baseman Jose Altuve, who came to the defense of Marisnick. Verlander simply said "#FakeNews," while Altuve acknowledged the unfortunate result from the play, but reiterated that it was not on purpose and that Marisnick is one of the best teammates he's ever had. The likes of Alex Bregman and Lance McCullers also commented to back their teammate.
Angels' catcher Jonathan Lucroy had to be carted off the field after the collision, and was later diagnosed with a concussion.
Marisnick later released a heartfelt apology for the collision, expressing his regret for the play at home plate.
It's unclear as to when Lucroy could return, but the All-Star Break should give the team ample time to make sure the veteran catcher gets the best help possible.
